We are all concerned about our health these days in a way that 6 months ago, we would never even have thought possible. Who would have thought when we were celebrating our holiday events and ringing in the new year, that a deadly virus was headed towards us that would bring fear, sickness, economic disasters and death. Even now, 4 months later, there is still so much we don’t know about how we contract this virus, how it acts in the body and how to prevent and cure it.
So, what do we do to keep ourselves safe? We social distance, wash our hands and keep them away from our face and wear masks.
What else can we do to keep ourselves healthy?
I think one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, and frankly, I am surprised that this has not been spoken about more often, is to boost our immune system by taking good care of our bodies. Almost all of us are able to do something to take better care of ourselves.
One of the simplest things we can do is eat a better diet. Consuming a diet that is rich in fruits, vegetables, whole grains and low in processed foods and animal protein is an easy way to assist your body to function optimally. The wonderful vitamins and minerals in these foods will help your body build up immunity to germs as well as other strains of bacteria and illnesses.
We all know that exercise is a good thing for your body, but do you know that the act of moving your muscles stimulates your lymphatic system? Our lymphatic system is our internal system that balances the fluids in our bodies and is a natural defender against infections. So now you have another, even better reason to go out for that walk!!
While we are waiting for someone to develop a safe vaccine and more treatment options, we can take care of our own immune systems with food and movement!
